Mi esposa Julie y yo hemos tenido una cobertura de DAN por muchos a\u00f1os y somos afortunados de habernos comunicado con DAN por una emergencia en una sola oportunidad \u201413 a\u00f1os atr\u00e1s cuando un pez le\u00f3n pic\u00f3 a Julie\u2014. Nuestros buceos se hab\u00edan desarrollado sin incidentes aparte de eso, pero nuestro \u00faltimo viaje a Peque\u00f1a Caim\u00e1n fue diferente.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Julie y yo somos compa\u00f1eros de buceo y buzos de aguas abiertas con m\u00e1s de 800 buceos realizados. Vivimos en Denver, Colorado, pero somos afortunados de haber podido viajar y bucear en lugares de clase mundial. Algunos buceos han sido dif\u00edciles, con corrientes significativas o temperaturas bajas.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En general nuestro objetivo es hacer dos viajes de buceo por a\u00f1o \u2014uno a alg\u00fan destino lejano o complejo, como Raja Ampat, y otro al Caribe\u2014. Nos encanta Peque\u00f1a Caim\u00e1n particularmente por su relativa facilidad, el ambiente relajado, los espectaculares arrecifes y el fant\u00e1stico Bloody Bay Wall. En mayo de 2024 partimos de la nevada Denver para bucear por un par de semanas en la c\u00e1lida y bella Peque\u00f1a Caim\u00e1n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ten\u00edamos previsto aprovechar las condiciones impecables con tres buceos por d\u00eda \u2014todos buceos de no descompresi\u00f3n con Nitrox con paradas de seguridad e intervalos de superficie apropiados\u2014. Un t\u00edpico d\u00eda consist\u00eda en un viaje en barco por la ma\u00f1ana para realizar dos buceos, regresar al muelle para almorzar y luego hacer un buceo vespertino.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>El primer buceo de cada d\u00eda era el m\u00e1s profundo, pero respetando los l\u00edmites, con ascensos lentos y una parada de seguridad final antes de salir a la superficie. Despu\u00e9s de pasar un intervalo de superficie de una hora viajando a un segundo punto y disfrutar de alg\u00fan bocadillo e hidratarnos, hac\u00edamos el siguiente buceo. El tercer buceo ten\u00eda lugar despu\u00e9s de un intervalo de superficie de dos horas o dos horas y media, y luego pas\u00e1bamos el resto de la tarde relaj\u00e1ndonos antes de cenar temprano e irnos a la cama.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Siempre nos aseguramos de mantenernos hidratados, y nuestros niveles de ox\u00edgeno y saturaci\u00f3n hab\u00edan estado bien. Julie y el divemaster me siguieron poco despu\u00e9s y luego nos dirigimos al muelle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aproximadamente 10 minutos despu\u00e9s de subir a la embarcaci\u00f3n, empec\u00e9 a experimentar un dolor muscular en la parte inferior del pecho, la pierna derecha sufri\u00f3 una p\u00e9rdida de la funci\u00f3n motora y supe que estaba en problemas. El m\u00e9dico de DAN nos guio a m\u00ed y a la enfermera a trav\u00e9s de las fases agudas del tratamiento de la enfermedad por descompresi\u00f3n (EDC), me ayud\u00f3 a decidir sobre mi atenci\u00f3n y me proporcion\u00f3 un recurso muy necesario con un conocimiento profundo sobre la EDC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El tratamiento hizo que mis s\u00edntomas desaparecieran r\u00e1pidamente: el dolor en el pecho desapareci\u00f3 y recuper\u00e9 el control de mi pierna. Tanto el m\u00e9dico de DAN como la enfermera insistieron en que continuara con la terapia con ox\u00edgeno por otras cuatro horas. Ya que hab\u00eda terminado con el buceo por este viaje, regres\u00e9 a la cl\u00ednica a la ma\u00f1ana siguiente para un seguimiento. Insist\u00ed para que Julie continuara buceando mientras yo me relajaba y le\u00eda hasta que nos fuimos de la isla tres d\u00edas m\u00e1s tarde.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En DAN se mantuvieron en contacto durante todo el viaje y fueron atentos y serviciales en numerosas llamadas y mensajes de correo electr\u00f3nico. Tras regresar a casa, visit\u00e9 a un m\u00e9dico experto en medicina de buceo recomendado por DAN para que me realizara una evaluaci\u00f3n de aptitud f\u00edsica para el buceo completa y me autoriz\u00f3 a reanudar la pr\u00e1ctica de buceo. El apoyo de DAN no termin\u00f3 all\u00ed, ya que siguieron respondiendo mis preguntas y me orientaron en la planificaci\u00f3n de mi siguiente buceo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>&nbsp;En todos mis a\u00f1os de buceo nunca hab\u00eda experimentado una EDC antes de ese episodio, y espero no tener que vivirlo nunca m\u00e1s. Hicimos todo bien en relaci\u00f3n con nuestros perfiles, liberaci\u00f3n de gases, hidrataci\u00f3n y descanso. Julie y yo hemos buceado en condiciones m\u00e1s extenuantes sin tener ning\u00fan incidente y nunca tuvimos se\u00f1ales de advertencia en buceos anteriores. No pudimos identificar una causa espec\u00edfica, pero despu\u00e9s de consultar a DAN y el m\u00e9dico experto en medicina de buceo, tenemos previsto hacer ajustes en futuros viajes para tener d\u00edas libres completos durante viajes de buceo de varias semanas y reflexionamos sobre c\u00f3mo podemos bucear de una manera incluso m\u00e1s conservadora.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Poder contar con DAN como un recurso a disposici\u00f3n hizo que esta experiencia fuera mucho mejor de lo que podr\u00eda haber sido.
