WHILE DAN\u2019S SUITE\u00a0OF EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS<\/span><\/strong> se concentrent principalement sur la plong\u00e9e, les dipl\u00f4m\u00e9s des cours peuvent appliquer les comp\u00e9tences et les connaissances qu'ils ont acquises \u00e0 de nombreuses circonstances en dehors du domaine aquatique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ma femme et moi rentrions d'un week-end \u00e0 Myrtle Beach, en Caroline du Sud, en direction du nord sur l'Interstate 95. Comme on pouvait s'y attendre, la I-95 \u00e9tait mod\u00e9r\u00e9ment encombr\u00e9e, avec notamment un trafic de motos inhabituellement \u00e9lev\u00e9, dont nous avons appris plus tard qu'il \u00e9tait d\u00fb \u00e0 un rallye organis\u00e9 \u00e0 proximit\u00e9. Pendant que nous roulions, ma femme a fait un commentaire sur toutes les motos et a esp\u00e9r\u00e9 qu'il n'arriverait rien \u00e0 un motocycliste. Quelques minutes plus tard, le trafic a ralenti et nous avons remarqu\u00e9 qu'un accident de moto venait de se produire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Une autre personne qui s'\u00e9tait arr\u00eat\u00e9e \u00e9tait au t\u00e9l\u00e9phone et appelait \u00e0 l'aide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apr\u00e8s avoir rapidement observ\u00e9 la situation, j'ai fait appel \u00e0 ma formation. J'ai d'abord demand\u00e9 \u00e0 la personne qui \u00e9tait au t\u00e9l\u00e9phone avec le 911 de rester en ligne jusqu'\u00e0 ce que nous puissions obtenir des informations sur le cycliste. Je me suis ensuite approch\u00e9 du cycliste, qui semblait bless\u00e9. Lorsque j'ai fait un pas devant lui pour attirer son attention, j'ai pu constater qu'il souffrait d'un probl\u00e8me neurologique. Il marmonnait et avait le regard vide. J'ai continu\u00e9 \u00e0 lui parler tout en essayant de stabiliser son cou et de le faire s'asseoir. Compte tenu de la vitesse maximale autoris\u00e9e dans cette zone et de la destruction de sa moto, je savais qu'une blessure au cou \u00e9tait tout \u00e0 fait possible et qu'il pouvait y avoir d'autres blessures, y compris internes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apr\u00e8s avoir fait asseoir le cavalier, j'ai commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 \u00e9valuer son \u00e9tat neurologique en lui posant des questions de base telles que son nom, l'ann\u00e9e, l'endroit o\u00f9 il se trouvait et ce qui s'\u00e9tait pass\u00e9. Il se souvenait de son nom, mais de rien d'autre. J'ai alors commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 utiliser certaines des comp\u00e9tences du volet \u00e9valuation neurologique du cours DAN Diving First Aid for Professional Divers (Premiers secours pour plongeurs professionnels). J'ai tent\u00e9 d'effectuer une \u00e9valuation F-A-S-T (affaissement du visage, faiblesse des bras, difficult\u00e9s d'\u00e9locution et temps), d'obtenir un historique S-A-M-P-L-E (signes\/sympt\u00f4mes, allergies, m\u00e9dicaments, ant\u00e9c\u00e9dents m\u00e9dicaux pertinents, derni\u00e8re prise orale et \u00e9v\u00e9nements ayant conduit \u00e0 la situation actuelle) et de v\u00e9rifier ses fonctions mentales et motrices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Comme lorsque j'ai approch\u00e9 le coureur pour la premi\u00e8re fois, il ne se souvenait que de son nom et semblait avoir un \u00e9tat mental alt\u00e9r\u00e9. Il \u00e9tait incapable de r\u00e9pondre \u00e0 des questions \u00e9l\u00e9mentaires ou d'effectuer une t\u00e2che simple telle que r\u00e9p\u00e9ter une phrase courante.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During this time I also started an initial first aid assessment, looking for any apparent life-threatening injuries or bleeding. A visual inspection revealed no obvious issues, so I began a secondary examination with assistance from another individual who had stopped to help. I directed this person to hold the rider\u2019s neck for stability while I performed the head-to-toe secondary survey. As I went through the assessment, I could not detect any abnormalities needing attention. The rider could move his arms, legs, fingers, and toes and did not complain about any other pain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
