Se rendre sur l'\u00e9pave du Caribsea<\/em> , au large de la Caroline du Nord, peut prendre jusqu'\u00e0 une heure et demie. En route vers le site de plong\u00e9e, j\u2019ai malheureusement mang\u00e9 un repas pr\u00e9emball\u00e9 avec une date d\u2019expiration illisible, achet\u00e9 la veille. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apr\u00e8s \u00eatre arriv\u00e9s sur le site et avoir re\u00e7u le briefing de plong\u00e9e, mon bin\u00f4me et moi avons pass\u00e9 en revue notre plan de plong\u00e9e tout en nous \u00e9quipant. Nous sommes entr\u00e9s dans l'eau et avons aper\u00e7u la silhouette de l'\u00e9pave au loin, \u00e0 l'extr\u00e9mit\u00e9 de la ligne d'ancre. Une multitude de requins-taureaux et diverses autres formes de vie marine l\u2019entouraient dans un tourbillon d\u2019activit\u00e9. Environ 10 minutes apr\u00e8s le d\u00e9but de la plong\u00e9e, \u00e0 une profondeur de 27 m\u00e8tres (90 pieds), j\u2019ai soudainement ressenti un malaise intense et une salivation excessive, signes que j\u2019allais vomir. Mon bin\u00f4me \u00e9tait \u00e0 port\u00e9e de main, et j\u2019ai rapidement attir\u00e9 son attention pour lui signaler que quelque chose n\u2019allait pas et que j\u2019avais besoin qu\u2019il reste pr\u00e8s de moi. Il a acquiesc\u00e9 et s\u2019est positionn\u00e9 \u00e0 proximit\u00e9, pr\u00eat \u00e0 m\u2019assister en partageant son air ou en intervenant si n\u00e9cessaire. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

J\u2019ai alors involontairement r\u00e9gurgit\u00e9 mon repas d\u2019avant plong\u00e9e, expulsant mon d\u00e9jeuner sous l\u2019eau \u00e0 travers mon d\u00e9tendeur principal, qui \u00e9tait toujours en bouche. Imm\u00e9diatement, des poissons se sont pr\u00e9cipit\u00e9s pour consommer les d\u00e9bris en suspension dans l\u2019eau. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

L\u2019agitation soudaine autour de nous \u00e9tait impressionnante et a renforc\u00e9 mon anxi\u00e9t\u00e9 grandissante. Le soulagement que j\u2019ai ressenti apr\u00e8s avoir vomi a \u00e9t\u00e9 de courte dur\u00e9e : j\u2019ai imm\u00e9diatement ressenti le besoin pressant de respirer \u00e0 nouveau. J\u2019ignorais aussi si j\u2019allais vomir plusieurs fois d'affil\u00e9e. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mon d\u00e9tendeur \u00e9tant obstru\u00e9, j\u2019ai r\u00e9sist\u00e9 \u00e0 la tentation de basculer imm\u00e9diatement sur mon d\u00e9tendeur secondaire. Je savais que si je retirais mon d\u00e9tendeur principal et vomissais de nouveau pendant la transition, je n\u2019aurais rien d\u2019autre que de l\u2019eau de mer \u00e0 inhaler. De plus, un deuxi\u00e8me \u00e9pisode de vomissements risquait d\u2019obstruer mon d\u00e9tendeur secondaire, me laissant sans source d\u2019air propre. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Conscient du danger d\u2019inhaler des vomissures ou de l\u2019eau de mer, je me suis forc\u00e9 \u00e0 rester calme et \u00e0 r\u00e9sister \u00e0 l\u2019envie de respirer profond\u00e9ment. J\u2019ai pu inspirer doucement malgr\u00e9 les d\u00e9bris coinc\u00e9s dans mon d\u00e9tendeur principal, et ma premi\u00e8re expiration a expuls\u00e9 la majeure partie des particules pi\u00e9g\u00e9es. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lorsque j\u2019ai senti que les r\u00e9flexes involontaires avaient cess\u00e9, j\u2019ai chang\u00e9 pour mon d\u00e9tendeur secondaire. J\u2019ai ensuite effectu\u00e9 plusieurs purges sur mon d\u00e9tendeur principal pour m\u2019assurer qu\u2019il \u00e9tait d\u00e9gag\u00e9, qu\u2019il ne fuyait pas et que je pouvais respirer normalement \u00e0 travers lui. Mon bin\u00f4me m\u2019a laiss\u00e9 le temps et l\u2019espace n\u00e9cessaires pour g\u00e9rer la situation sans paniquer. Une fois pr\u00eat, nous avons rejoint la ligne de mouillage et avons d\u00e9cid\u00e9 de terminer notre plong\u00e9e \u00e0 proximit\u00e9 avant de remonter \u00e0 la surface.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vomir sous l\u2019eau peut provoquer une inhalation involontaire et peut survenir en un seul \u00e9pisode ou en plusieurs occurrences successives. Garder votre d\u00e9tendeur principal en bouche apr\u00e8s avoir vomi en plong\u00e9e emp\u00eache l\u2019inhalation accidentelle d\u2019eau de mer, ce qui pourrait se produire lors d\u2019un changement pr\u00e9cipit\u00e9 de d\u00e9tendeur. Il est essentiel d\u2019attendre que l\u2019\u00e9pisode soit compl\u00e8tement termin\u00e9 avant d\u2019agir et de ne changer pour votre d\u00e9tendeur secondaire qu\u2019apr\u00e8s la disparition de tout r\u00e9flexe involontaire. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Plonger avec un bin\u00f4me est l\u2019une des meilleures pratiques de s\u00e9curit\u00e9. Mon bin\u00f4me est rest\u00e9 proche et pr\u00eat \u00e0 partager son air si je n\u2019avais pas r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 nettoyer mon d\u00e9tendeur principal ou si mon secondaire avait \u00e9t\u00e9 obstru\u00e9. Si la situation s\u2019\u00e9tait aggrav\u00e9e et que nous avions d\u00fb interrompre la plong\u00e9e, il aurait \u00e9t\u00e9 l\u00e0 pour m\u2019aider \u00e0 remonter. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rester concentr\u00e9 sur le probl\u00e8me et garder mon calme dans cette situation impr\u00e9vue m\u2019a permis de respirer lentement et d\u00e9lib\u00e9r\u00e9ment, minimisant ainsi le risque d\u2019inhaler du vomi ou de l\u2019eau de mer. Les le\u00e7ons de mes instructeurs sur la gestion du stress et la r\u00e9solution des probl\u00e8mes en profondeur m\u2019ont aid\u00e9 \u00e0 \u00e9viter la panique et \u00e0 emp\u00eacher la situation de d\u00e9g\u00e9n\u00e9rer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Les comp\u00e9tences fondamentales en plong\u00e9e, comme la purge d\u2019un d\u00e9tendeur et la gestion d\u2019un deuxi\u00e8me \u00e9tage en d\u00e9bit continu, se sont r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9es cruciales pour ma s\u00e9curit\u00e9.
