L'un des impacts les plus importants de ces bateaux est qu'ils commencent \u00e0 remuer les fonds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Apr\u00e8s avoir \u00e9t\u00e9 durement touch\u00e9e par la pand\u00e9mie de COVID-19, l'industrie des croisi\u00e8res conna\u00eet \u00e0 nouveau un essor fulgurant, avec plus de 37 millions de passagers pr\u00e9vus pour 2025. Les navires transportent en moyenne environ 3'000 personnes, mais certains peuvent d\u00e9sormais accueillir plus de 6'500 passagers. Un tel nombre de personnes \u00e0 bord g\u00e9n\u00e8re une quantit\u00e9 massive de d\u00e9chets, allant des eaux us\u00e9es et des eaux grises (eaux us\u00e9es provenant des douches, des \u00e9viers et des buanderies) aux eaux de cale huileuses, ce qui affecte la qualit\u00e9 de l'eau de mer.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La pollution atmosph\u00e9rique caus\u00e9e par les moteurs diesel des navires et les d\u00e9chets solides tels que les aliments, le plastique, les canettes et le verre aggravent les effets sur l'environnement. L'empreinte carbone d'un navire de croisi\u00e8re de taille moyenne est sup\u00e9rieure \u00e0 celle de 12'000 voitures. La plupart des ports des petits pays insulaires o\u00f9 font escale les croisi\u00e8res n'ont pas \u00e9t\u00e9 construits pour accueillir ces navires gigantesques. Par cons\u00e9quent, les ports multiplient la fr\u00e9quence et l'ampleur des projets de dragage. Ils creusent des chenaux et des ports plus profonds afin d'accueillir des navires plus grands qui n\u00e9cessitent une plus grande profondeur. Le dragage d\u00e9truit les habitats locaux et augmente la quantit\u00e9 de s\u00e9diments dans la colonne d'eau.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>De plus, les s\u00e9diments au fond sont remu\u00e9s dans les eaux peu profondes chaque fois qu'un grand navire arrive au port. Une \u00e9tude r\u00e9cente men\u00e9e \u00e0 Key West, en Floride, a r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9 qu'il \u00e9tait courant que les navires de croisi\u00e8re entrant au port provoquent des niveaux de turbidit\u00e9 d\u00e9passant les limites fix\u00e9es par l'Agence de protection de l'environnement, avec des niveaux parfois aussi \u00e9lev\u00e9s que ceux caus\u00e9s par les ouragans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La turbidit\u00e9 est particuli\u00e8rement probl\u00e9matique dans les habitats qui prosp\u00e8rent g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement dans des eaux cristallines, comme celles que l'on trouve dans les Cara\u00efbes, car elle affecte la p\u00e9n\u00e9tration de la lumi\u00e8re du soleil. Les coraux ne sont pas photosynth\u00e9tiques, mais ils d\u00e9pendent d'un symbiote algal, les zooxanthelles, pour survivre. Les zooxanthelles ont besoin de la lumi\u00e8re du soleil pour effectuer la photosynth\u00e8se, et elles partagent les sucres r\u00e9sultant de ce processus avec les coraux, leur fournissant l'\u00e9nergie n\u00e9cessaire \u00e0 leur survie.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Les s\u00e9diments remu\u00e9s, qui contiennent des contaminants, des agents pathog\u00e8nes et des microbes provenant des couches enfouies du fond marin, peuvent \u00e9touffer les coraux. Certaines esp\u00e8ces sont plus sensibles \u00e0 l'accumulation de s\u00e9diments, selon leur forme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>L'augmentation de la s\u00e9dimentation affecte les stades pr\u00e9coces du d\u00e9veloppement des coraux. Si les s\u00e9diments recouvrent le substrat, les larves de corail ont du mal \u00e0 s'installer. Une \u00e9tude r\u00e9cente a montr\u00e9 que les s\u00e9diments provenant sp\u00e9cifiquement d'un port \u2014 par opposition \u00e0 un site r\u00e9cifal au large \u2014 avaient un impact significatif non seulement sur le succ\u00e8s de l'installation des larves, mais aussi sur le taux de survie global des larves de corail. Les chercheurs sugg\u00e8rent que la communaut\u00e9 microbienne sp\u00e9cifique pr\u00e9sente dans les s\u00e9diments du port, qui dans cette \u00e9tude contenait des bact\u00e9ries associ\u00e9es \u00e0 des maladies du corail, est probablement un facteur contributif.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-solutions-nbsp\">Solutions&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Il n'est pas facile de changer l'industrie gigantesque des croisi\u00e8res, mais des ajustements pourraient \u00eatre apport\u00e9s afin de r\u00e9duire leur impact environnemental tout en continuant \u00e0 offrir de nombreuses activit\u00e9s divertissantes \u00e0 bord.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Les navires peuvent r\u00e9duire leur vitesse \u00e0 l'approche du port afin de limiter la s\u00e9dimentation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 L'industrie des croisi\u00e8res peut renforcer l'application des r\u00e9glementations en mati\u00e8re de gestion des d\u00e9chets.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Les progr\u00e8s technologiques peuvent am\u00e9liorer la durabilit\u00e9 des navires de croisi\u00e8re gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 l'utilisation de carburants alternatifs, d'un \u00e9clairage LED \u00e9conome en \u00e9nergie, de conceptions de coques plus efficaces, de programmes de recyclage et de compostage \u00e0 bord, de panneaux solaires et de syst\u00e8mes \u00e9oliens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Si vous pr\u00e9voyez de faire une croisi\u00e8re, choisissez un navire qui a moins d'impact sur l'environnement que les autres. Friends of the Earth publie chaque ann\u00e9e un rapport sur les navires de croisi\u00e8re qui \u00e9value 15 compagnies diff\u00e9rentes selon des crit\u00e8res tels que le traitement des eaux us\u00e9es, la conformit\u00e9 aux normes de qualit\u00e9 de l'eau et l'empreinte environnementale globale.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Si vous pr\u00e9f\u00e9rez des vacances plus durables, envisagez un s\u00e9jour dans un complexe h\u00f4telier tout compris ou une croisi\u00e8re en voilier. M\u00eame une croisi\u00e8re sur terre (visite en bus) serait plus respectueuse de l'environnement.
