Les avantages en termes de poids et de dur\u00e9e de vie tentent aujourd\u2019hui de compenser l\u2019obstacle que repr\u00e9sente leur co\u00fbt. Pour cette mise \u00e0 jour technologique de DAN, nous avons \u00e9chang\u00e9 avec un expert reconnu de l\u2019industrie, sp\u00e9cialis\u00e9 dans l\u2019inspection et la maintenance des bouteilles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Francois Burman : Comment l\u2019utilisation des bouteilles composites a-t-elle \u00e9volu\u00e9 depuis leurs d\u00e9buts, compte tenu des probl\u00e8mes signal\u00e9s en plong\u00e9e apr\u00e8s immersion, en particulier en eau de mer ?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mark Gresham:<\/strong> Il y a quinze ans, une bouteille de Type 3 (avec liner en aluminium) a subi une corrosion sous l\u2019enroulement carbone, due \u00e0 une infiltration d\u2019eau sal\u00e9e entre la fibre et le liner en aluminium. Le fabricant a sectionn\u00e9 la bouteille pour \u00e9valuer l\u2019\u00e9tendue de la corrosion et, en l\u2019espace de quelques heures, a publi\u00e9 une directive interdisant l\u2019utilisation de ce mod\u00e8le Type 3 en plong\u00e9e.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le permis sp\u00e9cial (DOT) du fabricant a ensuite int\u00e9gr\u00e9 cette interdiction. Bien que la National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) autorise leur utilisation pour des interventions rapides visant \u00e0 secourir des personnes dans des v\u00e9hicules submerg\u00e9s pr\u00e8s de la surface, le protocole de nettoyage du mat\u00e9riel apr\u00e8s sauvetage impose la mise au rebut de la bouteille.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Certaines bouteilles de Type 3 sont toutefois autoris\u00e9es en milieu aquatique, notamment celle portant le num\u00e9ro de SP 12479. Les bouteilles marqu\u00e9es UW conform\u00e9ment \u00e0 la norme ISO 11119-3 sont \u00e9galement homologu\u00e9es pour une utilisation sous l\u2019eau. Une fois pleinement autoris\u00e9es, les bouteilles de Type 4 (avec liner polym\u00e8re) se r\u00e9v\u00e8lent mieux adapt\u00e9es \u00e0 la plong\u00e9e autonome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-are-these-cylinders-limitations-nbsp\"><strong>Quelles sont les limites de ces bouteilles ?&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Plusieurs ont subi une rupture \u00e0 la suite d\u2019un surremplissage, de dommages physiques, d\u2019une exposition \u00e0 des agents chimiques ou d\u2019un gonflage effectu\u00e9 alors qu\u2019elles ne pr\u00e9sentaient aucun signe visible de d\u00e9gradation.. Un cas de rupture a \u00e9t\u00e9 directement attribu\u00e9 au nettoyage d\u2019une bouteille \u00e0 l\u2019ac\u00e9tone, solvant qui a dissous les r\u00e9sines \u00e9poxy utilis\u00e9es lors de sa fabrication. Lors du gonflage, la bouteille ainsi nettoy\u00e9e a c\u00e9d\u00e9 avant d\u2019atteindre sa pression de service de 4 500 psi. Il est donc essentiel de respecter scrupuleusement les recommandations du fabricant pour l\u2019entretien de tout \u00e9quipement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-robust-and-durable-are-they\"><strong>Quel est leur niveau de robustesse et de durabilit\u00e9 ?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>La plupart des bouteilles en acier et en aluminium \u00e0 paroi pleine sont con\u00e7ues pour rompre entre 2,3 et 2,5 fois leur pression de service. Les bouteilles de Type 3 \u00e0 enroulement carbone sont, quant \u00e0 elles, dimensionn\u00e9es pour rompre entre 3,3 et 3,5 fois leur pression de service. Ces bouteilles composites restent vuln\u00e9rables \u00e0 des dommages tels que des abrasions ou des entailles, mais un technicien d\u00fbment form\u00e9 peut, dans certains cas, \u00eatre en mesure de r\u00e9parer certains types de d\u00e9t\u00e9riorations<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-does-the-cost-compare-to-a-traditional-solid-wall-and-not-metal-cylinder\"><strong>Comment son co\u00fbt se compare-t-il \u00e0 celui d\u2019une bouteille traditionnelle en acier ou en aluminium \u00e0 paroi pleine ?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Une bouteille de plong\u00e9e \u00e0 paroi pleine correctement entretenue peut d\u00e9passer 50 ans de service. \u00c0 l\u2019inverse, la plupart des bouteilles composites pr\u00e9sentent une dur\u00e9e de vie sp\u00e9cifi\u00e9e nettement plus courte, parfois limit\u00e9e \u00e0 quelques ann\u00e9es seulement. \u00c0 volume \u00e9quivalent, leur prix peut \u00eatre trois \u00e0 cinq fois sup\u00e9rieur \u00e0 celui d\u2019une bouteille traditionnelle.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"450\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/world.dan.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Q4_92_Gear-450x675-1.webp\" alt=\"Type 4 (polymer-lined) cylinders are much more suitable for scuba.\" class=\"wp-image-33502\" srcset=\"https:\/\/world.dan.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Q4_92_Gear-450x675-1.webp 450w, https:\/\/world.dan.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Q4_92_Gear-450x675-1-240x360.webp 240w, https:\/\/world.dan.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Q4_92_Gear-450x675-1-8x12.webp 8w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Certaines bouteilles de Type 3 (avec liner en aluminium) peuvent \u00eatre utilis\u00e9es en milieu aquatique, mais les Type 4 restent plus appropri\u00e9es. L\u2019utilisation de ces bouteilles composites sous l\u2019eau suppose n\u00e9anmoins une analyse attentive des avantages et des inconv\u00e9nients.\n\u00a9 STEPHEN FRINK<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-do-these-cylinders-need-to-be-filled-more-slowly\"><strong>Doivent-elles \u00eatre gonfl\u00e9es plus lentement ?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Les vitesses de gonflage font r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement d\u00e9bat dans l\u2019industrie de la plong\u00e9e. La norme NFPA recommande un d\u00e9bit compris entre 300 et 600 psi par minute. Ce rythme limite l\u2019\u00e9chauffement d\u00fb \u00e0 la compression, r\u00e9duisant l\u2019\u00e9cart thermique entre le gaz \u00e0 l\u2019int\u00e9rieur de la bouteille et la temp\u00e9rature ambiante. Le refroidissement ult\u00e9rieur \u00e9tant minime, il n\u2019est pas n\u00e9cessaire d\u2019ajouter du gaz ni de pratiquer un surremplissage pour atteindre la pression de service nominale en fin de gonflage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-often-do-they-need-to-be-inspected-and-tested\"><strong>\u00c0 quelle fr\u00e9quence doivent-elles \u00eatre inspect\u00e9es et \u00e9prouv\u00e9es ?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>La plupart des bouteilles de Type 3 sont soumises aux p\u00e9riodicit\u00e9s standard de requalification (\u00e9preuve hydrostatique), g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement tous les cinq ans. Les bouteilles de Type 4 n\u00e9cessitent une inspection visuelle annuelle, ainsi qu\u2019une requalification tous les cinq ans. Des inspecteurs ayant suivi une formation certifi\u00e9e et r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement mise \u00e0 jour peuvent effectuer les contr\u00f4les sur les bouteilles de Type 3, mais les bouteilles de Type 4 sont soumises \u00e0 des exigences et \u00e0 une documentation suppl\u00e9mentaires.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-are-some-situations-where-it-makes-sense-to-use-a-composite-fiber-cylinder\"><strong>Dans quels cas l\u2019utilisation d\u2019une bouteille composite en fibre se justifie-t-elle ?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Lorsque la neutralit\u00e9 parfaite est recherch\u00e9e, ces bouteilles peuvent s\u2019av\u00e9rer utiles si elles sont correctement \u00e9quilibr\u00e9es, notamment au sein d\u2019un syst\u00e8me dot\u00e9 d\u2019une vessie interne et de lest additionnel si n\u00e9cessaire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Les bouteilles de Type 3 les plus courantes pr\u00e9sentent une flottabilit\u00e9 positive d\u2019environ 13 livres (5,9 kilogrammes) lorsqu\u2019elles sont pleines, ce qui en fait un choix peu adapt\u00e9 \u00e0 la plong\u00e9e. Cette flottabilit\u00e9 exc\u00e9dentaire impose l\u2019ajout de lest, ce qui peut compliquer la gestion d\u2019un emm\u00ealement ou d\u2019un danger n\u00e9cessitant le retrait de l\u2019\u00e9quipement, avec des variations de flottabilit\u00e9 potentiellement importantes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-are-these-cylinders-suitable-for-other-breathing-gas-mixes-do-they-have-any-gas-content-limitations\"><strong>Ces bouteilles conviennent-elles \u00e0 d\u2019autres m\u00e9langes respiratoires ? Pr\u00e9sentent-elles des limitations quant aux gaz utilis\u00e9s ?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Les bouteilles composites de Type 3 sont con\u00e7ues pour les gaz respiratoires les plus couramment employ\u00e9s en plong\u00e9e loisir. Une exception notable figure toutefois dans le Title 49 du Code of Federal Regulations, qui stipule que la pression ne doit pas d\u00e9passer 3 000 psi lors du remplissage \u00e0 l\u2019oxyg\u00e8ne.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Les plongeurs doivent toujours consulter le DOT Special Permit de la bouteille afin de v\u00e9rifier les types de gaz autoris\u00e9s. La plaque signal\u00e9tique peut \u00e9galement pr\u00e9ciser les gaz admissibles ; dans ce cas, la bouteille ne doit \u00eatre gonfl\u00e9e qu\u2019avec le gaz mentionn\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-considering-all-the-above-is-a-composite-fiber-cylinder-worth-the-expense\"><strong>Au vu de l\u2019ensemble de ces \u00e9l\u00e9ments, l\u2019investissement dans une bouteille composite en fibre est-il justifi\u00e9 ?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Pas \u00e0 l\u2019heure actuelle. Les bouteilles composites sont utilis\u00e9es depuis 1942, principalement dans des applications limit\u00e9es de l\u2019a\u00e9ronautique et de la d\u00e9fense. Elles ont toujours \u00e9t\u00e9 plus on\u00e9reuses que les bouteilles en acier ou en aluminium \u00e0 paroi pleine.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Les avanc\u00e9es en science des mat\u00e9riaux ont \u00e9largi leurs perspectives d\u2019utilisation, y compris en environnement subaquatique. Elles commencent ainsi \u00e0 int\u00e9grer certains syst\u00e8mes respiratoires de plong\u00e9e. Les prix pourraient baisser \u00e0 mesure que de nouveaux usages se d\u00e9veloppent et que les volumes de production augmentent, mais il est peu probable qu\u2019elles atteignent le niveau de diffusion des bouteilles standards en acier ou en aluminium.
