De petits granul\u00e9s ou pellets absorbent le dioxyde de carbone expir\u00e9 et laissent passer l\u2019oxyg\u00e8ne. Ce processus chimique permet aux recycleurs de recycler l\u2019air expir\u00e9, de limiter la consommation de gaz et de prolonger la dur\u00e9e des plong\u00e9es. Une fois satur\u00e9e, la chaux sod\u00e9e doit \u00eatre \u00e9limin\u00e9e. Les m\u00e9thodes d\u2019\u00e9limination peuvent varier selon la r\u00e9gion (en fonction des r\u00e9glementations locales) ainsi que selon la composition chimique du scrubber usag\u00e9. Les recommandations des fabricants sont souvent contradictoires et peuvent indiquer : \u00ab Utiliser une installation industrielle agr\u00e9\u00e9e pour l\u2019\u00e9limination des d\u00e9chets. \u00c9liminer les d\u00e9chets conform\u00e9ment aux lois et r\u00e9glementations locales et f\u00e9d\u00e9rales \u00bb, ou encore : \u00ab Peut \u00eatre \u00e9limin\u00e9 dans une d\u00e9charge de d\u00e9chets m\u00e9nagers \u00bb. La connaissance de la chaux sod\u00e9e et de ses composants chimiques est essentielle, tant pour une plong\u00e9e en recycleur s\u00e9curitaire que pour une pratique respectueuse de l\u2019environnement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-does-scrubber-work\"><strong>Comment fonctionne le scrubber ?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-nowrap is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-ad2f72ca wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<p>La chaux sod\u00e9e, le mat\u00e9riau de scrubber le plus courant, est compos\u00e9e d\u2019un m\u00e9lange d\u2019hydroxyde de calcium et d\u2019hydroxyde de sodium. Lorsque le plongeur expire, le dioxyde de carbone circule dans la boucle \u00e0 travers la cartouche de chaux sod\u00e9e, qui contient des pellets ou des granul\u00e9s d\u2019hydroxyde de calcium et d\u2019hydroxyde de sodium. Le dioxyde de carbone de l\u2019air expir\u00e9 r\u00e9agit alors avec les ions hydroxyle pour former des ions bicarbonate. Ces ions bicarbonate r\u00e9agissent avec l\u2019hydroxyde de calcium et produisent du carbonate de calcium ; au cours de ce processus, le carbonate de calcium reste pi\u00e9g\u00e9 dans la chaux sod\u00e9e, tandis que les ions hydroxyle utilis\u00e9s sont r\u00e9g\u00e9n\u00e9r\u00e9s et peuvent continuer \u00e0 r\u00e9agir avec davantage de dioxyde de carbone. Plusieurs facteurs \u2014 notamment le type et la taille des particules, la temp\u00e9rature de l\u2019eau et la charge de travail du plongeur \u2014 peuvent influencer la dur\u00e9e de vie de la chaux sod\u00e9e.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Apr\u00e8s une utilisation prolong\u00e9e, la chaux sod\u00e9e devient \u00ab satur\u00e9e \u00bb en carbonate de calcium et doit \u00eatre remplac\u00e9e. L\u2019hydroxyde de sodium r\u00e9siduel pr\u00e9sente un pH \u00e9lev\u00e9 lorsqu\u2019il est dissous dans l\u2019eau, mais avec le temps, il se dissout et se neutralise en r\u00e9agissant avec des acides pour former de l\u2019eau et des sels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-problem-of-scrubber-disposal\"><strong>Le probl\u00e8me de l\u2019\u00e9limination de la chaux sod\u00e9e<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>En raison des produits chimiques impliqu\u00e9s, l\u2019\u00e9limination de la chaux sod\u00e9e doit \u00eatre effectu\u00e9e avec pr\u00e9caution. En consultant les fiches de donn\u00e9es de s\u00e9curit\u00e9 des fabricants, elle est souvent class\u00e9e comme \u00ab d\u00e9chets inorganiques contenant des substances dangereuses \u00bb. L\u2019hydroxyde de calcium peut nuire \u00e0 la vie marine et aux \u00e9cosyst\u00e8mes s\u2019il est simplement rejet\u00e9 dans l\u2019eau \u2014 une pratique malheureusement encore signal\u00e9e, par exemple sur certains liveaboards (bateaux de croisi\u00e8re-plong\u00e9e). Le Trait\u00e9 international pour la pr\u00e9vention de la pollution par les navires (MARPOL), auquel les \u00c9tats-Unis ont adh\u00e9r\u00e9, interdit le rejet de tout d\u00e9chet \u00ab dans l\u2019eau \u00e0 partir d\u2019un navire se trouvant sur un lac, une rivi\u00e8re, un cours d\u2019eau ou dans les eaux c\u00f4ti\u00e8res jusqu\u2019\u00e0 3 milles marins du rivage \u00bb.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nmma.org\/assets\/cabinets\/Cabinet521\/Garbage_Disposal_Laws_Fact_Sheet.pdf\">(Garbage Disposal Laws Fact Sheet, National Marine Manufacturers Association)<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aux \u00c9tats-Unis, la chaux sod\u00e9e usag\u00e9e est trop souvent consid\u00e9r\u00e9e \u00e0 tort comme non dangereuse. Selon la composition chimique exacte du mat\u00e9riau de scrubber usag\u00e9, son \u00e9limination avec les d\u00e9chets municipaux ordinaires peut donc \u00eatre \u00e0 la fois ill\u00e9gale et n\u00e9faste pour l\u2019environnement. Bien qu\u2019un scrubber enti\u00e8rement utilis\u00e9 soit th\u00e9oriquement compos\u00e9 uniquement de carbonate de calcium non dangereux, ce n\u2019est g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement pas le cas, ce qui signifie qu\u2019il peut contenir de l\u2019hydroxyde de sodium toxique pour l\u2019environnement et ne pas \u00eatre adapt\u00e9 \u00e0 une \u00e9limination municipale classique. Conform\u00e9ment aux r\u00e9glementations strictes, l\u2019hydroxyde de sodium est consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme un d\u00e9chet dangereux et doit \u00eatre \u00e9limin\u00e9 correctement dans un site local de collecte des d\u00e9chets dangereux, g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement situ\u00e9 \u00e0 proximit\u00e9 des sites d\u2019enfouissement. Selon le Code of Federal Regulations des \u00c9tats-Unis (CFR, Titre 40, Partie 261), il incombe en dernier ressort au producteur du d\u00e9chet potentiellement dangereux (dans ce cas, le plongeur en recycleur) de s\u2019assurer de son \u00e9limination conform\u00e9ment \u00e0 toutes les r\u00e9glementations locales, \u00e9tatiques et f\u00e9d\u00e9rales.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le plongeur en recycleur qui plonge dans diff\u00e9rents lieux doit s\u2019assurer de bien comprendre toutes les lois et pratiques applicables dans chaque juridiction o\u00f9 il g\u00e9n\u00e8re, entrepose et \u00e9limine des d\u00e9chets potentiellement dangereux.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-best-practices\"><strong>Meilleures pratiques<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Quelle que soit votre localisation, certaines bonnes pratiques s\u2019imposent. Suivez toujours les directives d\u2019\u00e9limination fournies par le fabricant de la chaux sod\u00e9e ou du recycleur et assurez-vous que cette m\u00e9thode respecte toutes les lois locales, r\u00e9gionales et f\u00e9d\u00e9rales en mati\u00e8re d\u2019\u00e9limination des d\u00e9chets. Ne jetez jamais la chaux sod\u00e9e usag\u00e9e dans l\u2019eau.
