En revanche, l'homme est adapt\u00e9 \u00e0 la vie dans une atmosph\u00e8re s\u00e8che et ne peut aller sous l'eau que bri\u00e8vement en retenant sa respiration. Gr\u00e2ce aux appareils respiratoires sous-marins autonomes (SCUBA), l'homme peut prolonger consid\u00e9rablement son temps sous l'eau. Que ce soit en apn\u00e9e ou en scaphandre, la plong\u00e9e implique des facteurs de stress r\u00e9sultant des modifications de la respiration, de l'immersion dans l'eau et des changements de pression \u00e0 mesure que le plongeur se d\u00e9place verticalement dans l'eau. Pour les plongeurs en bonne sant\u00e9 et bien entra\u00een\u00e9s, le stress en plong\u00e9e est positif et provoque des adaptations spontan\u00e9es sans que les plongeurs en soient conscients. \u00a0Cela fait de la plong\u00e9e une exp\u00e9rience d\u00e9tendue et agr\u00e9able.
