Larger and more numerous VGE are statistically associated with a higher risk of decompression sickness (DCS), but the relationship is not a direct one. Differences in VGE and DCS risk have been documented among individuals and in the same individual <em>\u2014<\/em> even with identical dives. Importantly, VGE evolution postdive varies dramatically, so getting frequent measurements may be important for understanding the influence of VGE on other physiological mechanisms in diving. Toward this goal, researchers at UNC are working on obtaining thousands of ultrasound recordings to be used in refining automated algorithms for VGE detection.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-background has-dan-light-gray-background-color has-dan-light-gray-color\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Venous gas emboli (VGE) adalah gelembung yang dihasilkan dari nitrogen terlarut yang ada di jaringan saat penyelam naik. VGE dapat dideteksi menggunakan pencitraan ultrasound, terutama pada ekokardiografi (pencitraan ultrasonografi jantung), yang muncul sebagai titik terang yang beredar di ruang jantung vena. Dalam penelitian menyelam, video gelembung yang mengalir melalui jantung kemudian dianalisis oleh siswa kelas terlatih yang meneliti gelembung pada skala keparahan yang menghubungkannya dengan risiko DCS.
