ADEX OZTek Sídney, Australia

Mar 15 - Mar 16

Booth: The DAN Team will be exhibiting at ADEX, so if you have any questions or would like to collect a DAN Emergency Hotline Tag, visit booth B17 – B18.

In addition, DAN’s Vice President of Research, Dr Frauke Tillmans, is joining OZTek and will present:

What Do We Know About Rebreather Safety?

What kills rebreather divers? In this talk we’ll be taking a look at the rapidly growing rebreather community, including the accidents that have occurred and some numbers that may help estimate the size of the rebreather community. The number of newly certified CCR divers has increased from an estimated 2,000 in 2013 to over 3,000 today, which is in line with the growth in CCR sales. This talk will also cover what we know about the confirmed CCR fatalities from 2013 to 2022, including root cause analyses of the cause of death where possible. Finally, we’ll also highlight challenges in data acquisition and analysis.

¿Qué tan factible es la descompresión personalizada?

Are we there yet? In this talk, Dr. Tillmans will explore the intriguing topic of personalized decompression and its connection to bubble formation and individual physiology. With a focus on understanding the complexities of decompression stress and its relationship to DCS risk, we will dive into the challenges faced by dive researchers worldwide in studying individual physiology. We’ll also discuss the limitations of current methods, explore the potential of new technologies, and outline why further research is needed.

Plus, Dr Tillmans will present at ADEX

‘That Was Close …” – Learning from Diving Accidents’

Have you been on a dive where things just did not go the way you intended? The Research Team at Divers Alert Network (DAN) has been collecting reports of mishaps, accidents, and fatalities for over four decades. In this talk, we will take an in-depth look at diving accidents and safety measures. We will examine challenges in monitoring and analyzing global incidents and accidents. We’ll reveal key lessons learned from accident reports shared with DAN, and we’ll cover the importance of checklists, the effects of peer pressure, and the implementation of a culture of safety within the community.
