DAN Research Grants

DAN has introduced the Research Grant Program, designed to push the boundaries of dive safety through innovative research. The program will support studies that develop robust theories and empirical evidence that contribute to safer dive experiences.

DAN’s Internal Research Committee will craft the grants in collaboration with top dive experts and regularly issue competitive calls for proposals, specifying the challenges to address and the eligibility criteria. DAN also funds projects through open calls in the primary focus areas of health and dive decompression safety as well as prevention and treatment of dive injuries.

By applying and contributing to this critical field, researchers can join in DAN’s mission to enhance dive safety for everyone. For more information, contact research@dan.org. New user-friendly grant software will streamline the application process in 2025.

Cardiac researchers can apply for the Alfred Bove Research Grant for Cardiac Health in Scuba Diving, which supports research that may increase dive safety by studying possible adverse effects of scuba diving and their mechanisms in divers with preexisting heart conditions as well as methods of screening for increased risk of death from cardiac causes and possible preventive interventions. The grant is funded with $250,000 over the next five years.
