Boat Diving Safety Course Now Available

To advance DAN’s mission to help divers during emergencies and to make diving safer, DAN launched the Continuing Education for Dive Professionals program in 2024. The program’s second course, which focuses on boat diving safety, is now available.

DAN is highlighting boat diving safety to improve training about safely getting to and from dive sites. Whether it’s a day boat or liveaboard, boats are a common element in diving. DAN receives many reports of accidents and incidents on boats and wants to help dive pros recognize their significant role in preventing them.

This course covers planning and preparing for boat diving trips and briefing divers before they board. It also highlights things dive pros and their divers should be mindful of while on a boat. The depth and detail of information in the course and the reminders of common issues on dive boats will enhance awareness of frequent problems in boat diving.

This training is based heavily on the U.S. Coast Guard’s recommendations and the boat operations section of DAN’s Risk Assessment Guide, which provides best practices to make diving and dive operations safe.

If you are not a dive professional, the course will enhance your knowledge and readiness to help divers on boats. You play a key role in keeping divers safe, and we appreciate your commitment to making our industry safer.
