Can I purchase DAN membership only?

DAN coverage is offered to divers as a combined assistance package; membership cannot be purchased independently. The assistance packages combine membership benefits and dive accident assistance benefits.

Can I purchase the Dive Accident Assistance Package only?

No. See above.

Can I purchase family coverage?

All DAN World assistance packages are per person. Each diving family member can choose the package that best meets their individual needs.

Is the fee for the assistance packages monthly or annual?

Annual

Are lifetime memberships available?

DAN World offers annual memberships only. Lifetime memberships are not available.

Does the assistance package fee need to be paid in full at the time of enrolment?

The fees must be paid in full (as a single payment) at the time of enrolment.

Am I covered worldwide with DAN World’s assistance packages?

The Preferred and Master packages offer worldwide coverage. With the Local package, the benefits are valid within your country of residence only.

What is the coverage period for the assistance packages?

12 months

What age limits apply to the assistance packages?

The minimum age for coverage is 8, and the maximum age is 70.

Can divers from anywhere in the world join DAN World?

To join DAN World, you need to reside in a country in one of the DAN World regions: Latin America and the Caribbean, Asia-Pacific, or Australia. If you live in another country, coverage is provided through one of DAN’s other international entities. Will I receive a membership card?

When you purchase an assistance package you will receive a confirmation email with instructions for how to log in to your member portal to download a digital member card. 

Is the emergency medical evacuation benefit only for dive emergencies?

With your DAN World Dive Accident Assistance Package, you receive DAN TravelAssist benefits and emergency medical evacuation coverage. These benefits help with both diving and nondiving medical emergencies while you are on a trip. Your emergency medical evacuation coverage assists you when you travel at least 50 miles (80km) or more from home. For the Local coverage, your emergency medical evacuation coverage assists you when you travel within your home country and at least 50 miles (80 km) or more from home.

To use this member benefit you MUST first contact DAN TravelAssist through the DAN Emergency Hotline (+1-919-684-9111) BEFORE making any evacuation arrangements.

Are any countries excluded from DAN TravelAssist (emergency evacuation) services?

It is the responsibility of the member to inquire as to whether a country/region is “open” for assistance prior to their departure. The following list will provide some guidance but must not be used as a definitive listing as it will change from time to time. The following countries/regions are not approved for travel assistance benefits at this time: Afghanistan, Algeria, Chad, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Mali, North Korea, Niger, Nigeria, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria, Pakistan, and Yemen. Please contact DAN TravelAssist to confirm which countries are excluded for your expected dates of travel.

Are snorkeling, freediving, and spearfishing covered by DAN World’s assistance packages?

For recreational activities, yes. However, any competition-related or world record attempt activity is excluded per the conditions of the policy.

Do the DAN assistance packages include search and rescue benefits?

No.

How do I file a claim?

Notification of claim should be given within 10 days after a covered accident. If it’s not possible to notify the claims office during that time, it must be given as soon as reasonably possible. Travel Assistance Packages FAQs

Can I purchase a Travel Assistance Package without a Dive Accident Assistance Package?

No. The Travel Assistance Packages are optional add-ons to the Master and Preferred Dive Accident Assistance Packages.

Can I purchase a Travel Assistance Package with the Local Assistance Package? 

No. A Travel Assistance Package can only be added to the Master and Preferred Dive Accident Assistance Packages.

Can I add the Preferred Travel Assistance Package if I purchase the Master Dive Accident Assistance Package?

No. You can only add the Master Travel Package with the Master Dive Accident Package, and the Preferred Travel Package with the Preferred Dive Accident Package.

How much do the Travel Assistance Packages cost?

The Travel Assistance Packages are an additional premium to the Dive Accident Assistance Packages. The Master Travel add-on is US$150, and the Preferred Travel add-on is US$225.

What age restrictions apply to the Travel Assistance Packages?

The minimum age is 8, and the maximum age is 70.

Is there a family option?

No. All packages are per-person.

How far do I need to be from my residential address in order for the benefits to apply?

The trip must be at least 50 miles (80 km) from the insured person’s home, and it must be a return trip.

Is there a maximum duration of travel that applies?

Yes. Each trip may not exceed 90 consecutive days.

I am traveling to obtain health care; do these benefits apply?

No. Benefits are not valid when traveling to obtain health care or medical treatment of any kind.

I have a second home in another country; will the benefits of this policy apply?

No. Travel benefits do not apply if the travel is to a destination where the insured person maintains a home or residence.

Is there a limit to the number of trips per year that will be covered?

No. You are covered on every trip you take during the year, any time you travel 50 miles (80 km) or more from home, and it is a return trip.

DAN World membership includes automatic enrollment in DAN TravelAssist®. Benefits are available for both diving and non-diving emergencies, with a combined benefit limit up to $150,000.  

DAN TravelAssist® benefits are provided by DAN, Travel Guard®, and other service providers depending on the benefit. To access these benefits or to request emergency medical transportation, you must contact DAN TravelAssist for assistance. Emergency medical transportation arranged directly by you may not be reimbursed.
