Beneath the Fin

Sharks are among the ocean’s oldest survivors. They have cruised through Earth’s seas for more than 450 million years — long before the first trees grew or Saturn formed its rings.

Accidents and incidents occur worldwide that leave victims beyond the reach of standard rescue techniques. These events often happen in or near the water and may require the assistance of specially trained personnel.

The Business of Protecting Paradise

Our oceans are under siege. Destructive industrial-scale fishing is causing widespread species decline. Ocean warming due to human-induced climate change is triggering episodes of mass coral bleaching with increased vigor and frequency.

Feeling Groovy in Little Cayman

I was in Little Cayman this past May, and a lyric hit me on the first dive: “Slow down, you move too fast. You got to make the morning last.” I had been invaded by Simon and Garfunkel’s 1966 hit “The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin’ Groovy).”
